Information overload has been a problem and I think even more so re Covid-19. I work in a public legal library and there is legal news everywhere! I try to only post relevant information to our area, Pittsburgh or Allegheny County. Is this a good approach? Are there ‘unwritten’ guidelines for the number of posts most small libraries make and where can I find the written ones? I try to avoid political posts at all costs. Only if there is information or mild ‘disagreement’ do I even consider posting.

You are on the right track, Lori. Posting frequency really depends on the platform and your users. So on Twitter, you can post a lot and you won’t be penalized by the algorithm. On Facebook it’s quite the opposite. I would advise only one post a day on Facebook and the regular Instagram feed, and as many as you want on Instagram stories and on Twitter. A really great website to stay up to date on platforms and their algorthims is Social Media Today (https://www.socialmediatoday.com/).
